NASA’s InSight mission, engineered by a longtime customer of Hentzen, Lockheed Martin, landed on Mars. While we are proud of our own successes at Hentzen, we also take time to celebrate the success of our customers and reflect on how these achievements were made possible.
Hentzen is a longtime supplier of Lockheed Martin, and throughout this partnership, we have coated many of their notable feats of engineering. The honor of being a partner with them throughout their achievements is immense and their progress throughout history parallels ours in many ways.
With humble beginnings in the early 1900s, small projects and contracts were what made up day-to-day business at Hentzen and Lockheed Martin alike. With the 1940s came WWII and the United States created a stimulus package to increase defense spending. Lockheed Martin’s company grew exponentially during the war as the demand for airplanes increased. Likewise, Hentzen Coatings became a testing facility for the U.S. Army and our production increased tenfold as our customers’ manufacturing spiked.
As war passed and defensive spending by the U.S. Government started to decline, companies that had relied on their defense products for income were forced to diversify their brand. For Lockheed Martin, this meant journeying into space; for Hentzen Coatings, this meant more focus on aerospace and general industrial products. This diversification of our brand is what keeps us successful today, nearly 100 years later.
Diversifying our brand into multiple markets sets us up for success on all fronts. Though specialization has its place, diversification makes for better business. As defense-minded customers of ours diversify their brands and reach to Mars, we follow.
